Event Highlights
This impactful event would focus on the pressing need for clean air and a healthier environment. This year’s event will feature a pivotal moment – the presentation and endorsement of the “Road Map for Integrated action on Air Pollution, Short-Lived Climate Pollutants (SLCPs) Mitigation Action and Health in the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.” This roadmap charts a transformative path towards cleaner air and a sustainable future for our region.
Trinidad and Tobago Leadership in Air Quality and Climate Action:
Guided by the World Health Organization (WHO) target of a two-thirds reduction in premature mortality from air pollution by 2030, Trinidad and Tobago (T&T), along with over 190 countries, embraced the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and the Paris Agreements. With a focus on the nexus of health, environment, and climate, T&T has emerged as a regional trailblazer. The country boasts a robust air quality monitoring network, ratified the Paris Agreement, joined the BreatheLife campaign, and initiated the landmark Clean Air for Blue Skies Day commemoration. Bolstered by this momentum, T&T secured a Climate and Clean Air Coalition grant for a groundbreaking initiative – The Roadmap for Integrating air pollution and short-lived climate pollutants mitigation actions in T&T. Developed by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) the Environmental Management Authority and the Ministry of Health in collaboration with UN Environment Program – Regional Office for Latin America and the Caribbean (UNEP-ROLAC), this roadmap encompasses strategic actions across regulatory, technological, awareness, and monitoring dimensions. By fortifying regulatory frameworks, enhancing sector capacities, and fostering cross-sector collaboration, T&T aims to markedly enhance air quality, diminish pollution impacts, and serve as a catalyst for regional progress. Overview of leadership in advancing integrated action for air quality and climate.
