The Environmental Management Authority (EMA) advises the public, that the current “Air Quality” level in Trinidad and Tobago has registered as UNHEALTHY on the Air Quality Index (AQI). According to the readings taken at the EMA’s Monitoring Stations in Mayaro, Pt Lisas, Port of Spain and San Fernando, respectively, at 9:00am, Thursday 1 February 2024, levels range between 152 – 156 on the AQI. The increase in Particulate Matter (PM) is attributed to Saharan dust. Everyone, in particular, sensitive groups including older adults, children, individuals with heart or lung disease, respiratory ailments and allergies are strongly advised to avoid prolonged or heavy exertion.
